Italy have officially confirmed the call-up of Federico Gatti after the injuries suffered by Giorgio Scalvini and Francesco Acerbi.

The Nerazzurri veteran withdrew from the Azzurri set-up last week after his decision to undergo an operation to resolve his painful groin issues, reducing Luciano Spalletti’s options at the back ahead of the European Championship.

Things went from bad to worse for Italy after Scalvini suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Atalanta’s final game of the season against Fiorentina on Sunday, an injury that’ll keep him sidelined for the remainder of the calendar year.

Italy call up Gatti

As officially announced today, Juventus defender Gatti has been called up by Spalletti to join the Azzurri squad at Coverciano, adding some cover at the back. He will join his Italy teammates later today to start preparation for the European Championship.

The 25-year-old Bianconeri centre back has only made three caps for the Azzurri in the past, with his most recent appearance coming in the 5-2 win over North Macedonia back in November.
