Chelsea have tended to be extremely proactive in transfer windows under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, but it looks like they might be overseeing some outgoings in the January transfer window. That could involve the offloading of young forward David Datro Fofana.

Chelsea Receive Offer For David Datro Fofana

Which Club Are Interested In Fofana?

The 21-year-old is actually on loan at Bundesliga club Union Berlin right now but has struggled to impress in Germany, which has caused some questions over his future. Amid all this, Fabrizio Romano has reported that La Liga side Sevilla have already sent a formal, official proposal to the Premier League side to acquire the services of the forward.

Romano adds that the Spanish club wants Fofana to “join them immediately” and hope to get the deal over the line soon. Sevilla are also working on signing Inter Milan midfielder Lucien Agoume on loan alongside their pursuit to sign the Chelsea forward on a short-term deal. It is now upon the Blues to decide whether they want to terminate Fofana’s stay at Union Berlin and send him to gain some experience in La Liga at Sevilla, after they recently terminated the loan of midfielder Andrey Santos from Nottingham Forest too.

What Happened To Fofana At Union Berlin?

The London heavyweights signed the Ivorian from Molde FK in January 2023 after seeing him impress for the Norwegian club. However, he could only make four appearances for their senior team in the second half of the 2022/23 campaign and the club decided to loan him to Union Berlin last summer in the hopes he would get regular game-time in a major league.

However, the 21-year-old failed to properly adapt to the club and had issues. He’s only scored two goals in 17 appearances for them, taking his all-time domestic football goal tally to 26 goals in his career, and even got suspended at one point of the campaign after having problems with ex-manager Urs Fischer. Chelsea could look to end his troublesome time with the German side and move him into a new environment. The La Liga style could potentially help the young forward regain clinical goal-scoring ability and come back to Stamford Bridge a much more efficient forward next season.
