Roma defender Dean Huijsen, on loan from Juventus, has officially decided to represent Spain instead of the Netherlands at international level.

The 18-year-old centre back, who has represented various Dutch youth teams, left Turin for the Italian capital last month, joining the Giallorossi on a six-month loan deal with no buy option attached. He’s impressed so far, scoring twice across eight games.

Juventus will bring back Huijsen in the summer and could retain him for next season, although the club are also open to loaning him out in order to continue his development. He is contracted to the Old Lady to June 2028.

Spanish Royal Decree 200/2024 confirms that Huijsen has now officially become a Spanish national and is therefore eligible for their national team. He moved to the country aged five with his family and started his footballing career at Malaga before the move to Juventus.

Up until now, the teenage defender has appeared for the Netherlands U17, U18 and U19 squads, but will now switch over to the Spanish U21 squad in the coming weeks.
