Simon Kjaer reveals he turned down lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia to stay at Milan, but is waiting for news on an injury while playing for Denmark.

The defender was in action during this evening’s friendly match against Switzerland when he picked up a muscular issue and limped off around the hour mark.

It was a difficult match all around for Serie A players, because Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer also went off for Switzerland with a sprained ankle in the first half.

Kjaer already had several injury problems this season and made 22 official appearances with one assist this term.

Meanwhile, Kjaer spoke to bold.dk in his homeland before the match about his present and future career plans, which all revolve around the Rossoneri.

“I have turned down offers from Saudi Arabia. I did it for many reasons, first of all because at this moment I am where I always wanted to be.

“I always desired to play for Milan and I have a wonderful life in Milan.”

Kjaer spent much of his career in Italy with Palermo, Roma and Atalanta before the move to Milan in January 2020, but has also lived and worked in Germany, France, Turkey and Spain.

“My wife is Swedish, so Denmark is not home for her, just like Sweden is not home for me. My children understand Danish, but their main language is English, as they always went to English-language schools.

“We moved around an incredible number of times in our lives, so Italy has become our home.”
