Confusion remains over the situation at Lazio, as Maurizio Sarri has left after reportedly handing in his resignation, but his assistant manager and squad are in training retreat and Miroslav Klose admits he’s open to the job.
The reports have been swirling around multiple sources since early this afternoon that Sarri has tended his resignation, though President Claudio Lotito has not yet formally accepted it.
Sarri left the training ground at 16.00 GMT and emptied his locker, but the curious element of the story is that his staff remain under the guidance of assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello.
Lotito also ordered the squad into a training retreat and most of the players therefore remain at Formello overnight, despite not having a training session.
Tomorrow morning, Martusciello will therefore be the coach in charge of training and it is entirely possible he and the rest of Sarri’s staff will remain in charge for the rest of the season.
Lotito has not yet arrived at Formello, but is expected to turn up this evening.
Meanwhile, former Lazio striker Klose is in Barcelona acting as a television pundit and spoke in passing to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.
According to Di Marzio, Klose told him that he has not received any call from Lazio, but would be open to accepting the job until June.
Another alternative would be current Under-14 youth team coach and former striker Tommaso Rocchi.
