Lazio midfielder Matias Vecino believes that Inter Milan fully deserve the Serie A after having an “extraordinary” season.

The former Nerazzurri midfielder spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews. He also said that he is always happy to be back at the San Siro after five years as an Inter player.

Vecino spent five years playing for Inter.

The Uruguayan international joined the Nerazzurri from Fiorentina in the summer of 2017. He would go on to leave the club in the summer of 2022.

During Vecino’s five seasons at Inter, the former Empoli and Fiorentina midfielder made a total of 127 appearances. He scored thirteen goals for the club.

One of them, ironically, came against his current club Lazio – allowing Inter to qualify for the Champions League at the Biancocelesti’s expense.

However, Vecino did also do his part to help Lazio qualify for Europe’s top club competition.

The club from the capital were in this season’s edition of the Champions League. However, they will have a tough time following that up with a second consecutive qualification, with this season’s form erratic.

Lazio Midfielder Matias Vecino: “Extraordinary” Inter Deserve Serie A Title

Meanwhile, Inter have certainly had a busy couple of years since Vecino left.

The Nerazzurri have reached the Champions League final, won the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana, and last month, the Serie A title.

Looking ahead to next weekend’s match against the champions, Lazio midfielder Vecino commented that “It will be great to be back at the San Siro.”

“They’ve had an extraordinary season,” continued the 32-year-old. “And they deserved to win the Scudetto.”

“But we have to play our game and try to get into the Champions League,” Vecino continued.

“Even though we know that will be tough.”

Lazio are currently trying to chase down the likes of Atalanta and Roma in fifth spot in the Serie A table.
