Lazio veteran Matias Vecino has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Galatasaray. The 32-year-old’s future at the Italian capital is now in doubt, especially following the departure of Maurizio Sarri.

The Uruguayan has been plying his trade in Serie A since signing for Fiorentina in January 2013. He also went on to represent Cagliari, Empoli, Inter before signing for the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2022.

The experienced midfielder shares a strong rapport with Sarri, dating back to their time together at Empoli. So with the Italian tactician handing in his resignation last month and subsequently being replaced by Igor Tudor, Vecino’s fate remains to be decided.

Nevertheless, the player has a suitor in the shape of Galatasaray, as told by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24). The source claims that Vecino could be tempted to join his friend and compatriot Lucas Torreira in the Western side of Istanbul.

The midfielder’s contract with Lazio is valid until June 2025. So in case the two parties decide to part ways, it remains to be seen if club president Claudio Lotito would be willing to rescind the player’s contract and allow him to leave for free, or instead ask for a small transfer fee.

This season, the Uruguay international has contributed with five goals and one assist in 34 appearances for Lazio across all competitions.
