Lazio president Claudio Lotito is serious about his project for the Stadio Flaminio.

As reported by Italian media outlet LazioNews24 earlier today, the Italian businessman wants to take over the abandoned Stadio Flaminio in Rome and redevelop it into being Lazio’s new home stadium.

The Biancocelesti are keen to move out of the Stadio Olimpico, with the stadium having poor pitch visibility due to the running track, as well as being too large to fill on a weekly basis.

The president of the Sport Commission of the Municipality of Rome, Angelo Diario, discussed Lotito’s proposal when speaking with Italian newspaper Leggo earlier today.

The proposal is important and serious, now we are verifying the constraints so that the project can be successful and attractive.

I don’t see any obstacles, since there is public interest. We will verify all the conditions, then the ball will pass to Lazio who will have to present a project with a partnership proposal.

Considering the advanced state of deterioration at stadium, serious redevelopment work would be needed in order to get it to the required state.

Intercity rivals AS Roma are also working to find a new home, as renting the Stadio Olimpico from the City of Rome means less avenues for income on match-days, as well as any potential sponsorship deals.
