Leeds United’s strong first half of the season has left them in the playoff spots of the Championship table. Currently fourth, seven points adrift from automatic promotion but still eight points above sixth place Sunderland, the Lilywhites have a chance to utilise the January transfer window to boost their squad and challenge for one of the top two spots. However, Phil Hay has reported that a young player is on his way out of Elland Road.

Leeds United End Djed Spence Loan Deal, Player Returns to Tottenham

Spence Back to Tottenham Hotspur from Elland Road

The English journalist stated in an article for The Athletic that “Leeds have sent Djed Spence back to Tottenham.” A 23-year-old right-back, the youngster made a limited number of appearances due to injuries. When he was deployed for the Premier League hopefuls, the defender was equally utilised on either side of the backline.

A loan to Leeds was agreed this summer after it was revealed “The defender was not in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham plans ahead of the 2023-24 season.” Spence had previously been loaned to Ligue 1 club Rennes and Nottingham Forest while the Tricky Trees were still in the Championship.

Spence suffered “lateral collateral knee ligament damage following a challenge in training.” He would go on to miss the following twelve fixtures. Described as an “all-action wingback,” he will either attempt to break into Tottenham’s starting lineup, or secure another loan deal with more promised playing time.

The Youngster’s Rise

A product of Fulham’s academy, the London-born defender made his professional debut in the Championship with Middlesborough. His time with Boro saw Spence labelled a “wonderkid,” and Tottenham would come calling in a £20 million permanent move to North London. Now, back with Spurs, the 23-year-old will look for more opportunities to prove his worth.
