Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp makes shocking decision about future

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shocked the soccer world on Friday when he announced he would be stepping away from the club following this season because, in his words, he is simply running out of energy.

He made the announcement in a video posted by Liverpool on X.

Klopp is regarded as one of the best managers in the world and has been with Liverpool since 2015, delivering one of the best stretches of football the club has ever seen. Under Klopp's watch, the club underwent a massive revival in terms of both success and popularity, reaching its peak in 2019 and 2020.

During the 2019-20 season, Liverpool won the Premier League, its first league championship in 30 years and also won the 2019 Champions League. Klopp led the club to back-to-back Champions League finals in 2018 and 2019.

Aside from stepping away from Liverpool after this season, Klopp said in his announcement that he would not manage any club anywhere for at least one year and that he would never manage another club in England other than Liverpool.

He also said he told the club in November before going public with his decision on Friday, and that it was a "relief" once he made it.

Part of what makes Klopp's decision so shocking is that he only has two years remaining on his contract, but Liverpool is also at the top of the Premier League table.

Along with the Champions League and Premier League titles, Liverpool also won the FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup and the FA Community Shield during Klopp's run with the club.
