AC Milan have added Maurizio Sarri to their list of potential managerial candidates to replace Stefano Pioli at the end of the 2023/24 season.

As has been reported by Gianluigi Longari for Sportitalia (via Notizie Milan), Sarri holds many of the right tactical characteristics to suit the job at Milan and his time at Lazio is unlikely to count against him.

Sarri recently departed Lazio, having been at odds with the Biancocelesti hierarchy for much of his time at the club. Many Lazio fans felt the club had made a mistake by not making the most of Sarri in the job.

As Longari explains, there are tactical reasons behind Milan having Sarri on their list of potential targets, with Pioli expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

“In the list of coaches that Milan are considering, without there having yet been any contact between the Rossoneri management and this coach’s staff, there is also Maurizio Sarri. Sarri has the right tactical characteristics to enhance, according to Milan, the qualities of the squad available,” Longari said.

Longari also stresses that there has been no contact between the club and Sarri at this stage, they merely approve of him on a technical level.

“Sarri is a name that Milan do not dislike in their evaluations, but, we repeat, at the moment there has been no direct contact. It is an indiscretion that for now stops at technical approval,” he explained.

Milan’s hunt for a new coach looks as though it could easily drag on, with plenty of names being circulated each week. The likes of Julen Lopetegui, Thiago Motta, Paulo Fonseca, Roberto De Zerbi and Sergio Conceicao have been linked, along with others.
