Fabrizio Romano has another update on Manchester United’s search for a new manager after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

Spain manager Luis Enrique won’t be involved in any talks with the club because his focus is on the World Cup next year, and now is not the time for changing his mind.

On top of that, in slightly better news, Sevilla manager Jules Lopetegui described the idea of joining United on an interim basis as “absurd”.

Of course, that would mean leaving Sevilla where he respected, to join United for a couple of months before being left jobless. This position is only going to appeal to those not currently in work — unless they are will to jump ship mid season.

Romano tweeted“Luis Enrique won’t be involved in any talk with Manchester United. He’s only planning for the World Cup with Spain and he’s not gonna change his mind.

“Sevilla manager Jules Lopetugui also denied Man Utd job chance: ‘It seems absurd to me’.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves tipped Enrique as the ideal manager to take over the reins at Old Trafford.

When asked about the main contender to land the job at United, Hargreaves told BT Sport, as quoted by The Metro: “I think [Pochettino] commands respect, I think he demands work from the players. But all these names are great names.

“Brendan has great experience in the league. Zidane, surely the language barrier has got to be a thing. Ten Hag has done unbelievable with Ajax, but they’re the best team in Holland – is he going to be able to dominate the ball over here in the Premier League like he does in Holland?

“I think one name that’s not on there, which I’d like to see, is Luis Enrique.

“If you manage a big football club like Barcelona, and you won the treble there, and then you can go and take a pretty average team to a semi-final [of Euro 2020] in Spain, I think that’s the type of guy [United need].

“And he’s only managing the national team, so I think he could come in and do the job now.

“And I think he would transform United from a good team into a great team.”
