Former Atalanta ace Luis Muriel took to social media to thank La Dea fans for showing him respect following his move to Orlando City. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side thumped Sassuolo 3-0 on Saturday in their first Serie A outing after the Colobmian’s switch to Major League Soccer.

Muriel didn’t have time to bid farewell to Atalanta supporters upon his €1m transfer to MLS. However, fans have not forgotten all the joy the 32-year-old gave them during his five-year stint in Bergamo. They displayed a touching farewell banner to thank the ex-Udinese forward for his memorable performances in the Nerazzurri shirt.

With your madness and style – you gave us such fun over these years. Thanks Lucho,” the banner read. It moved Muriel’s heart as he took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the Atalanta faithful.

You will never stop surprising me, you move me and make me fall more in love with you, with Atalanta and all of Bergamo,” he wrote. “We will see each other again soon, I want to hear you, I want to embrace you, I want to be there to say goodbye, just as I wanted to at the start.

I love you and always Forza Atalanta!

Muriel didn’t win a piece of silverware with Atalanta after becoming the club’s most expensive signing in 2019. La Dea splashed out Sevilla €21.2m to capture his services. He repaid that trust with 68 goals and 28 assists in 184 appearances.
