Former Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra admits Liverpool were interested in signing him prior to his move to Old Trafford.

The France international signed for the Red Devils in 2006 and made over 270 appearances in the Premier League before departing in 2014 but he has explained how the Reds were eyeing a deal.

Speaking on the Vibe with Five podcast, the 41-year-old revealed, "Before [Manchester] United came, my agent said we have Liverpool, Inter Milan and United.

"I remember my agent was so excited saying: 'Patrice, it's Manchester United'.

"I only watched United because of Eric Cantona so this had a big influence. When I met Ferguson, you feel something special, his aura, if you do well for this man, you're going to win and achieve lots of things in my life and that was feeling."
