Manchester City dominates Newcastle to retake Premier League lead

Manchester City only needed a draw with Newcastle United on Sunday to take back the top spot on the Premier League table, but it got more with a decisive, 5-0 win.

Raheem Sterling scored the first and last goals of the match Sunday, beginning in the 19th minute when he redirected a João Canelo header into the net with a header of his own.

From there, it was all City with Aymeric Laporte scoring in the 38th minute, Rodri in the 61st, Phil Foden in the 90th, and Sterling scoring his second goal in stoppage time. City controlled possession for 72 percent of the match and at one point didn't allow Newcastle to complete a single pass for a 10-minute stretch.

Manchester City has been in a tight duel with Liverpool for the Premier League title and fell to second place when Liverpool drew with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Now with three matches left for each team, City has a three-point lead and four-goal lead in the goal differential.

Liverpool's season will end with matches against Aston Villa, Southhampton, and Wolves. City has a similar slate with matches against Wolves, West Ham, and Aston Villa.
