Manchester City’s Argentine striker Julian Alvarez has a key role to play in the remainder of this season. He reminded everyone of his quality with a brace in City’s 3-1 win over Burnley on Wednesday evening. His continued good form could be a decisive factor in the second half of this season.

City’s Argentine striker has taken his game to another level this season. Given Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term injury and Erling Haaland’s two-month layoff, it gave Alvarez the chance to shine. It has been an opportunity he has seized with both hands. So far this season he has scored 15 goals and added 10 assists in 32 appearances. His contribution has been vital to City’s cause this season.

Against Burnley, the quality of Alvarez was on full display. He scored twice with two well-taken goals. His finishing was on point and helped Pep Guardiola’s side take full control of the game in the opening 20 minutes. It allowed City to cruise to a crucial win while barely getting out of second gear.

With Erling Haaland returning from injury Manchester City now has their primary strike weapon back in the fold. With the form of Alvarez, it allows City the chance to ease Haaland back into the fold. With the Argentine striker at his best, it takes pressure off the Norwegian striker as he returns to the pitch. It also opens up the possibility of the pair forming a deadly partnership throughout the second half of the season.

Julian Alvarez has a key role to play for Manchester City during the second half of the season. He has been one of Manchester City’s top performers this season and he can help lead City to glory if his strong form continues.
