Manchester United have activated an option to extend Victor Lindelof’s contract to 2025.

The Sweden international, who signed for United in 2017, has played a bigger role than anyone imagined this season due to injuries in the squad. His current deal was due to expire next summer – until United decided to extend it by a further 12 months to protect his value in the market.

Lindelof has been Erik ten Hag’s most used centre-back so far this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions. Sadly he’s currently out recovering from injury.

According to The Athletic, the 29-year-old is viewed as important to Ten Hag’s plans and system.

Those out of contract in June now include Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Anthony Martial and Hannibal Mejbri.

I wouldn’t be surprised if United decided to cash in on Lindelof in the summer, but he may even earn a new contract if he can have a strong second half to the season. It could be a matter of less games when Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire return from injury.
