Manchester United will be in the market for a new centre-back in 2024 and Benfica starlet Antonio Silva is the latest name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

According to a report by Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg , Benfica defender Antonio Silva will be United’s ‘top target’ for next summer’s transfer window.

The 20-year-old reportedly has a €100 million (£86.7m) release clause in his contract that becomes active next year, but United are ‘keen’ on sorting contract details with the promising defender.

Silva has made 61 appearances for Benfica, scoring six goals, and Benfica are already thinking about the profit they’ll make on his sale.

It is believed that Silva is attracting interest from a number of top clubs around Europe, including Real Madrid, as per Mundo Deportivo.

United’s transfer policy is set to shift when Sir Jim Ratcliffe/Ineos begin work at the club. Erik ten Hag will see a lot change on the recruitment side of things, but signing the most promising defender in Portugal may be a good place to start.

Silva isn’t the only Primeira Liga defender linked with a move to United. Sporting Lisbon star Goncalo Inacio is another option that gets mentioned regularly in the gossip columns.
