The UEFA Champions League knockout stages start this week. Paris Saint-Germain meets Real Sociedad in their Round of 16 first-leg contest on Wednesday at Parc des Princes.

With several Champions League trophies, Marco Asensio discussed PSG’s chances in an interview with Agence France Presse. Asensio notes that the Parisians have all the tools to win the trophy that has long eluded them.

“With the club, the staff, and the players, we are on the right track, united, and I believe that we will accomplish great things,” Asensio told the French media outlet (h/t Paris Fans).

“We all get along well and are very ambitious. We have already won a title (the Trophée des Champions in January), and there, in a very short period, arrive the Championship, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League, all three very important. [PSG] aims to win all the competitions we compete in.

Asensio has played against Real Sociedad countless times during his time with Real Madrid. The newcomer highlighted the formidable challenges that the Ligue 1 side faces against the La Liga team. Furthermore, many observers also perceive PSG as the favored team in the matchup against Real Sociedad.

“The matches will be difficult and complicated,” Asensio added. “Real is a team that I know well; they play very good football and are very efficient. They are an amazing team because they have great local players and a coach who has shaped their team for several years. So it will be a complicated double confrontation, but we will do our best to try to beat them and qualify.”

PSG will look to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2021. The past two years saw the French giants crash out in the Round of 16. PSG lost to Real Madrid in 2022 and Bayern Munich in 2023. Before this tough stretch, the capital club reached the final in 2020 and the semifinals in 2021.
