Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has joined the board of Swiss Challenge League side FC Wil 1900.

FC Wil is Schar's former junior club and he's been cleared by Newcastle to take up the role.

He will work on the board of directors in the sporting area, where there's also a sports commission with a president, sports director, CEO, head coach and assistant coach Fabian will now join us there," Maurice Weber, FC Wil's president, told Blick

He is a unifying figure, grew up a stone's throw from here, brings a lot to the table in terms of sports and networking. He clarified everything with Newcastle first."

Schar also said: "FC Wil are the club of my childhood, youth and lifeblood. Being now able to help shape their strategy is perfect preparation for life after my playing career.

"I will try to bring my sporting knowledge to the club to help it progress. I've seen and experienced a lot in football, and will try to pass on the benefit of my experience."
