Toma Basic has officially joined Salernitana on a six-month deal after leaving Lazio on loan this month.

The 27-year-old Croatian midfielder was not included in Maurizio Sarri’s plans this season, something he was informed about in the summer, but he decided to stay in the Italian capital to try and convince the coach.

Basic failed to break into the Lazio team this campaign, seeing just nine minutes of action in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 win over Genoa in December.

As confirmed this week, Salernitana have now signed Basic from Lazio on a six-month loan deal with no buy option attached, meaning he’ll return to the Italian capital in the summer. His contract with the Biancocelesti expires in the summer of 2026.

The Croatian midfielder has not looked a convincing player in Rome since his arrival from Bordeaux in the summer of 2021. He’s made 70 appearances for the club, scoring twice and providing two assists.
