On this day 15 years ago, Fernando Torres scored an amazing goal in the Champions League for Liverpool against Inter Milan.

The Reds beat Inter 3-0 on aggregate in the Round of 16 as they became the fourth English side to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League that season, with talisman Torres the fulcrum of their side.

Torres broke the deadlock for Liverpool on 64 minutes at San Siro to all but end Inter’s hopes of progressing, when he received a pass from Aurelio on the edge of the box, before spinning and arrowing a shot past Julio Cesar at his near post.

It was a typical Torres goal given the form he was in that season, where he scored 33 goals and got five assists in 46 matches as Liverpool finished 4th in the league and went on to reach the semi-finals of Europe’s elite competition, losing to his future club Chelsea who were then beaten by Manchester United in the final in Moscow.
