Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino tests positive for COVID-19

Reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain confirmed on Friday that new manager Mauricio Pochettino tested positive for COVID-19.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has tested positive for Sars-Cov2 after a PCR test," the club explained in an official statement. He will now be in isolation and follow the appropriate medical advice. His assistants Jesus Perez and Miguel D’Agostino will take over his duties starting tomorrow at Angers.

A former Paris Saint-Germain player, Pochettino famously guided Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur to the 2019 Champions League Final that Tottenham lost to Liverpool. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy dismissed Pochettino in November of that year following a lengthy poor run of form, and the 48-year-old coach remained unattached to any club until he returned to PSG earlier this month.

Pochettino hoisted his first trophy with Paris Saint-Germain when they defeated Marseille 2-1 on Wednesday to win the Trophee des Champions. According to a story produced by ESPN, Reuters and Associated Press, Pochettino embraced several players, including superstar Neymar, while not wearing a mask or similar face covering during post-match celebrations.

PSG sit second in the Ligue 1 table on 39 points heading into Saturday's match at Angers (seventh, 30 points). Lyon are first on 40 points.
