AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli believes that his side have the quality to beat Liverpool and put the pressure on Porto tonight.

The Rossoneri looked to be dead and buried after four group stage games as they had lost three of them with only a solitary point coming against Porto at San Siro. However, they went to the Wanda Metropolitano and beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 thanks to a goal from Junior Messias and that has kept their hopes alive.

They face Liverpool tonight knowing they must win no matter what, and if they do then they can qualify for the last 16 providing Porto-Atletico is a draw or the LaLiga side do not win by more goals than Milan do.

Pioli spoke to Infinity + before the game against Liverpool at San Siro this evening and stressed the importance of going into the match with the right mindset, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“We will have to have the right approach, the team is ready and we hope to be the height. Quality and unpredictability? In these matches the level of technical quality can make the difference, we will have to find important plays when they leave us the space,” he said.

“We believe we can have a great game and we will try to win, what happens on other fields does not interest us at the moment, we will find out in the end.”
