Porto manager Sergio Conceicao insists that the lack of Minutes of Mehdi Taremi has nothing to do with his imminent move to Inter Milan.

The Iran international has a pre-agreement with the Nerazzurri over a summer switch.

The 31-year-old will sign for the Serie A leaders as a free agent once his contract with Porto expires at the end of the campaign.

Since his return from the Asian Cup, Taremi has been struggling to earn playing time with his club.

Some suggested that Conceicao has decided to drop the Iranian from the starting lineup due to his summer exit.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese manager refutes the claim. He explains that Taremi’s lack of minutes is due to his form rather than anything else.

“Taremi is an option, he will probably play the next one,” said Conceicao following his side’s win over Vitoria (via FcInterNews).

“His situation depends on his physical state, on how he returned from the international break, and his work in training. I’m paying attention to all of it.”

Porto Coach Sergio Conceicao Insists Inter Milan Switch Not Behind Mehdi Taremi Lack Of Minutes

The Porto manager acknowledged the attacker’s imminent exit but insists he’ll continue to rely on him till June.

“I have seen and read that Taremi has undergone medical tests with other clubs and that I am saddened by the situation.

“But that’s not true. I’m not sad for anyone. He has a contract until June and I’ll be counting on him till then. This has been the same for all the players who left during my seven years at the club.

“There’s no controversy. It’s a question of form, quality and hard work. He will have his opportunities until the end of the season.

“I believe he will play, because he is a player of extreme quality and can help us.”
