Report: Cristiano Ronaldo agrees to $207 million per year deal with Saudi Arabian club

As the Portugal men's national team continues their World Cup run, star forward Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed to a massive contract with the Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr FC.

The deal — first reported by Spanish outlet Marca — is reportedly worth $207 million per year. The news comes just over one week after Ronaldo's fiery departure from Manchester United, where he played from 2003 to 2009 and then again from 2021 to 2022.

According to Joe Prince-Wright of NBC Sports, "it was believed he could head elsewhere in Europe to try and wrack up more records in the UEFA Champions League," but the 37-year-old will instead "help promote the game in Saudi Arabia." ESPN's Rob Dawson reported Wednesday morning that Ronaldo had been offered a 3 1/2-year deal from Al-Nassr worth more than £100 million a year.

Dawson further wrote, however, that Ronaldo would wait until after the World Cup before "deciding on his next move."

"Sources have also told ESPN that as part of the agreement, Al-Nassr have indicated they would be willing to compensate Ronaldo for the wages he would have earned had he seen out the last six months of his contract at Man United -- around £16m," Dawson wrote. "Ronaldo, 37, has asked his representatives to be kept out of negotiations over his future in club football while he is in Qatar, but sources have told ESPN that talks over a move to Al-Nassr have taken place."

Prince-Wright wrote that per the Marca report, sources close to the legendary footballer said the contract hasn’t been signed and he’s "fully focused on leading Portugal to glory at the World Cup."

"Further details states this is a two-and-a-half-year deal, so Ronaldo would make $517 million from a 30-month stint playing in Saudi Arabia. That is $17.2 million per month," Prince-Wright wrote.

Fabrizio Romano had further details on the deal.

Ronaldo and the rest of his Portuguese teammates have started off the World Cup with a pair of wins and have already qualified for the knockout round. They face South Korea in their final tilt of the group stage on Friday.
