Stefano Colantuono has officially been hired by Salernitana, becoming their fourth coach this season.

Salernitana confirmed Fabio Liverani’s sacking and Colantuono’s appointment with an official statement on their website on Tuesday morning.

The 61-year-old is the fourth coach the club has had in 2023-24 after Paulo Sousa, Filippo Inzaghi, and Liverani. The latter, a former Italian midfielder, remained in charge for only five matches and collected one point.

Several Italian sources claim Inzaghi refused to return to the club so he terminated his contract with the Granata by mutual agreement.

This is Colantuono’s third spell at Salernitana. He was first appointed in 2017-18 and then in 2021-22. He has 243 appearances in Serie A as a coach.

Salernitana have only won two games in Serie A this season, both under Inzaghi.

They sit at rock bottom of the Serie A table with 14 points in 29 matches. Salernitana’s next Serie A game is away at Bologna on April 1.
