Saudi clubs circle as Tottenham aim to sign Fulham boss Marco Silva
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has faced a fair share of criticism this season. The Australian has the chance of ending the club’s 17-year long wait for a major trophy, but fans have not been pleased with the domestic performances at all. The Lilywhites sit 17 th in the Premier League and they are enduring their worst-ever league campaign.
Big Ange’s men have now lost 20 Premier League games this season, breaking the club’s unwanted record of most league defeats in a single campaign. However, the 59-year-old has still managed to lead Tottenham to the Europa League final. Spurs will face Manchester United in the final later this month. The fans will be feeling quite confident as the Lilywhites have already beaten Man United thrice this season in all competitions.
It is believed that winning the Europa League will still not be enough for Ange Postecoglou to save his job. The ex-Celtic boss is expected to be relieved from his duties once the season ends. Daniel Levy has already started looking for managerial replacements for next season, indicating that the Lilywhites are looking to start fresh.
Tottenham suffer blow in their pursuit of Fulham boss Marco Silva
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is looking to replace Ange Postecoglou in the summer, regardless of the outcome in the Europa League. The Spurs chairman has shortlisted several managers as potential replacements of the Australian. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Fulham boss Marco Silva are leading the race to replace Big Ange at the helm at N17.
However, Spurs are now facing a massive blow in their hopes of reaching an agreement with Marco Silva. Football Insider reports that Al Hilal are also interested in signing the 47-year-old before the start of the Club World Cup in June. It is also suggested that Silva has refused to rule out a move to the Saudi club and aims to consider all options before deciding.
Marco Silva has a £8m release clause in his Fulham contract that gets activated in the summer. The ex-Everton manager was asked about his future earlier this week, and he said (via Football Insider),
“I don’t close doors to something like that, I’m not saying I won’t work outside of Europe, it can happen in the future.”
With Ange Postecoglou heading towards the exit doors at N17, Daniel Levy will need to act quick if he wants to land Marco Silva. The Lilywhites cannot afford to lose out on another managerial target, after losing the battle to sign Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola. Spurs need to close the gap on its rivals next season and the only way to do it is by making the right decisions in the summer transfer window.
