Sergino Dest becomes first USMNT player to score for Barcelona

United States Men's National Team breakout star Sergino Dest, who turned only 20 years old earlier this month and joined Spanish giants Barcelona back on Oct. 1, is already making history with his new team.

Dest became the first USMNT player to score for the Catalan club during Tuesday's 4-0 Champions League thrashing of an overmatched Dynamo Kiev side:

As noted by an ESPN piece, Dest is now the 10th U.S. international to score in Europe's top-tier club tournament. He spoke about his experience following the victory that propelled Barcelona to 12 points from four matches in Group G:

ESPN's Sam Marsden gave Dest a player rating of "8" for his performance on Tuesday, adding: "A great display in defense and attack, capped with a goal."

With the match's result decided, Konrad De La Fuente entered the game to mark the first time that a pair of U.S. players featured for Barca at the same time:

The sky continues to be the limit for Dest, who made his Eredivisie debut with Ajax in August 2019 and attracted attention from massive suitors around world football such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich until leagues halted play in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. He committed his international future to the U.S. roughly 13 months ago despite being eligible to represent the Netherlands in major tournaments.

Dest is signed with Barcelona through the 2024-25 season and has a buyout clause of €400 million attached to his rights.
