Tottenham must fork out €25m to beat Barcelona to Dodo

Tottenham Hotspur have endured a difficult season at White Hart Lane, and the North Londoners have already started laying out a blueprint for the upcoming summer transfer window, with the club looking to move for a new right back despite the Lilywhites finding themselves in a relatively strong position with the likes of Djed Spence, Pedro Porro, and Archie Gray capable of playing in the role, but that hasn’t stopped Daniel Levy from considering a move for Brazilian defender Dodo from Serie A Fiorentina.

There is a lot of competition to his signature

The 26-year-old has been putting in some impressive performances for his current employers, where he has showcased his defensive ability alongside his attacking prowess from the right flank this season, and his performances have attracted interest from around Europe, with the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, and Juventus interested in his signature alongside the North Londoners.

As per the current volume of reports, the interest from Barcelona seems genuine, with the Catalan giants placing Dodo at the top of their target list in the right full-back role, and they could end up being considerable competitors for his signature for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham can essentially replace Porro for €25m

For Tottenham, pushing for a move to sign Dodo seems like more of a long-term plan than immediate requirements. The prospects of his signatures could also be owing to the fact that Pedro Porro may depart Hotspur Way when the summer window comes around, with Manchester City and Real Madrid interested in his signature. And the 26-year-old’s ability to contribute going forward, as well as having a commanding presence at the back, would ideally fit into how Postecoglou likes his full-backs to operate.

The Serie A giants have reportedly placed a €25 million (£21.5 million) valuation on the full back (via AS), and this is a financial flex that should come easily for Daniel Levy & Co. But there is also a potential for a bidding war given the suitors for his signatures, but we will see if the Lilywhites are willing to engage in any potential bidding war that could elevate his price. There have also been reports suggesting that Fiorentina are looking to extend the 26-year-old’s contract, but that breakthrough in negotiations looks difficult as of now.

It is to be seen where this transfer rumour goes from here, but if the North Londoners are to replace Porro at the aforementioned price, it would be nothing short of a bargain.
