Dan Kilpatrick has been on the Mauricio Pochettino beat for years, so he’s getting plenty of action on the Chelsea sites in recent days.

Today he wrote a piece in the Evening Standard about why Tottenham didn’t reappoint their former boss, and how they might be left frustrated should he go on to be a success at Stamford Bridge. He had been on their list as they changed manager a couple of times, but the club never got as far as getting in touch.

He calls it a “big gamble,” given bringing him back to Tottenham could have helped with a lot of their problems, and given they’ve missed the chance to “deny Chelsea a boss who appears tailor made for their squad.”

There are certainly plenty of obvious connections between our squad now and the one at Tottenham that Pochettino took over in 2014. Bloated and shapeless and lacking motivation, this might be the perfect time for him to arrive.

Let’s hope we leave Spurs rueing the day they didn’t bring him back.
