Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure to keep his job at Manchester United and with the season coming to an end, it is far from certain that the Dutchman will remain as the club’s manager this summer.

Ten Hag enjoyed a strong maiden campaign in charge of the club, guiding his side back to the Champions League and ending the club’s six-year wait for silverware.

His second season has, however, been far from successful. There is little sense of direction and as things stand, the mood is low and dark.

Steve McClaren was one of the first appointments made alongside Ten Hag when he joined the club roughly two years ago, joining Ten Hag as part of his backroom staff.

Parting ways with the entire coaching staff is standard practice when sacking a manager but now, there are reports that McClaren could yet remain at the club if Ten Hag is let go this summer.

That’s according to The Mirror, who say that McClaren has a longstanding relationship with Sir Dave Brailsford, who will play a central role in leading the INEOS revolution at Old Trafford.

As per the report, McClaren is viewed as someone who could remain in the structure at the club regardless of what the decision on Ten Hag’s future is.

Ten Hag has one year remaining on the deal he signed when he took over from Ralf Rangnick in 2022 and it remains to be seen whether he is allowed to see his contract out.

Winning the FA Cup could save the Dutchman some face but on a larger scale, much of the damage has already been done, albeit not everything has been in his hands.
