Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing the Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

The 27-year-old has established himself as a quality defender in the Bundesliga and his performances have attracted the attention of several English clubs. A report from Kicker claims that Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on signing the German international as well.

Tottenham have been affected because of some injury problems and they need to bring in the right additions in January so that they can finish the season strongly and push for Champions League qualification.

Jonathan Tah could prove to be a quality acquisition for them. The North London outfit signed Micky van de Ven during the summer transfer window and the defender made an immediate impact in the Premier League. However, he is sidelined with an injury and Tottenham need more depth in their squad.

Tah has the quality and the physicality to succeed in the Premier League, and he could prove to be the ideal addition to the Tottenham defensive unit alongside Cristian Romero.

The report from Kicker claims that Tottenham are ‘showing interest in the defensive giant’, but a move in January seems highly likely. Leverkusen are having an exceptional season and they will want to push for the league title.

They will not want to weaken the squad midway through the season. It seems that any transfer might have to wait until the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old defender has a release clause in his contract which can be activated in the summer for just €18 million. He could prove to be a bargain at that price.

Meanwhile, Manchester United defenders Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane have been linked with moves away from the club and the German defender could be a quality replacement. As far as Chelsea are concerned, they will need to replace Thiago Silva soon and Tah seems like the ideal alternative to the Brazilian.
