Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bundesliga midfielder Florian Wirtz.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a key player for Bayer Leverkusen and he is considered ‘one of the great sensations’ of European football right now. A report from Mundo Deportivo claims that he is valued between €80-100 million.

Tottenham are not the only club after him and they will face competition from London rivals Arsenal and Spanish giants Barcelona. However, the asking price could prove to be prohibitive for the Spanish outfit. Barcelona are going through financial difficulties and they might not be able to pay €80-100 million for the German midfielder.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until the summer of 2027 and he is unlikely to be available for cheap.

The 20-year-old can operate as the central attacking midfielder as well as a winger. He could develop into one of the best playmakers around Europe and Spurs could certainly use someone like him.

The Bundesliga midfielder has contributed to five goals and nine assists across all competitions this season and he has the attributes to develop into a world-class player with the right coaching and guidance.

A move to the Premier League could accelerate his development and Ange Postecoglou could help him fulfil his tremendous potential. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to pay a premium for him in the coming months.

They must also look to secure Champions League qualification if they want to attract elite talents like him.
