USMNT's Timothy Weah to miss World Cup qualifiers due to injury

The United States men's national team will be without a goal-scoring option when they open their upcoming round of World Cup qualifying matches this week.

Per The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), American forward Timothy Weah will miss the USMNT's three September qualifiers because of an injury he suffered during training with Ligue 1 club Lille this weekend.

Weah, 21, would've started training alongside his US teammates on Monday. He is the son of 1995 FIFA World Player of the Year George Weah and signed with Lille in the summer of 2019.

The US begin the next stage of the World Cup journey at El Salvador on Thursday before a home contest versus Canada on Sunday. Next week, the Americans will be away to Honduras on Sept. 8.
