USWNT star Alex Morgan 'very close to' 100% after COVID-19 bout

United States Women's National Team superstar Alex Morgan admitted last week that she "was fairly sick" after she, along with daughter Charlie and husband Servando Carrasco, contracted COVID-19 over the holidays.

Per Jeff Carlisle of ESPN, U.S. manager Vlatko Andonovski told reporters on Wednesday that Morgan is approaching full fitness ahead of Thursday's SheBelieves Cup opener versus rivals Canada.

"Every day, she's done better and better and literally progressing from training to training," Andonovski explained. "So she's very close to, or moving in a direction to be the best version of herself. That makes us very excited because we know if she's at her best, she can be deadly."

The U.S. are also scheduled to face Brazil on Sunday and then Argentina on Feb. 24.

Morgan completed a short stint with FA Women's Super League side Tottenham Hotspur during the fall and then returned to the United States in December. The 31-year-old made five appearances and scored two goals for Tottenham.

Morgan announced on Jan. 5 that her family was dealing with the coronavirus, and she said last week:

"I was fairly sick. Me and my whole family got it — Servando and Charlie — so with that said, we were together for 10, 12, 14 days and kind of just recovering, sleeping as much as we could.

"I was fighting off a little bit of a fever for quite a few days but as I got back and kind of took the right steps to get my body back into shape, I started to feel really good after about three weeks or so but it did take a little bit, and it took a lot of patience as well, on my end."
