Napoli striker Victor Osimhen continues to attract links with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, and Fabrizio Romano has once again confirmed that these clubs are interested in him.

However, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano made it clear that there isn’t really anything new to report on Osimhen’s situation for now, despite the ongoing stories about top clubs pursuing the Nigeria international.

It’s still some way until the summer when Osimhen’s situation is likely to become clearer, but for now Romano says that ‘for sure’ there is interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, which makes sense as both clubs look like they could do with signing a new striker for next season.

Arsenal aren’t exactly struggling for goals right now, but they have had points this season when they’ve created a lot of chances and failed to finish them off.

Gabriel Jesus isn’t the most naturally prolific striker, while he’s also had injury problems, so it could make sense to bring in Osimhen as an upgrade.

The 25-year-old would also surely have an important role to play at Chelsea, where Mauricio Pochettino has endured a difficult first season in charge relying on unproven young forward Nicolas Jackson, with Christopher Nkunku missing much of the campaign through injury.

Discussing the latest Osimhen links, Romano said: “We have been speaking about PSG, Arsenal and Chelsea for months…for sure these clubs are interested, I don’t think it’s new. It’s going to be important to see who is going to make concrete steps to sign Osimhen, but at the moment we’re not at that stage yet; and it’s the same on player side.

“Osimhen is focused on Napoli for now after signing a new contract earlier this season, even if the feeling was that he would probably leave the club this summer, so let’s see what happens closer to June/July.”
