Xabi Alonso is a happy man. Months of meticulous planning and tactical brilliance finally culminated in his team’s first-ever Bundesliga title! On Sunday night, Bayer Leverkusen won 5-0 over Werder Bremen to mathematically secure the Bundesliga title, with 5 games left to play! Celebrations played into the night as a historic Bundesliga title becomes the first title of their remarkable season.

Following their historic victory, Xabi Alonso was addressing the press in a conference. Little did he know that his players had planned a ‘pleasant’ surprise for him. As the cameras quickly spotted his players approaching him from the side, a confused Alonso stood up to accept his fate.

Along came a group of his players, which included Lukas Hradecky , Jonathan Tah and others. They proceeded to pour beer over their manager’s head as they danced up and down in celebration.

After a few moments of dancing with their manager, Alonso, along with his men exited the conference. Fans recalled how Alonso was among the players years back as Real Madrid players poured beer over Carlo Ancelotti .

Crunching the numbers as Xabi Alonso leads Bayer Leverkusen to a historic title

Xabi Alonso has manufactured a Bundesliga title win for the ages. As Bayer Leverkusen lift their first-ever title in their history, the fans have the players’ grit and determination alongside Alonso’s tactical brilliance to thank.

However, a closer look at his team’s performance this season reveals something extremely impressive. To begin with, Leverkusen didn’t lose a single game in their run-up to the title.

As their 29th game of the season sealed their title, Leverkusen have won 24 of them. The club drew the rest of the games as an unbeaten season adds to their impressive feat.

A whopping 74 goals were scored throughout the season, while only letting opposition attackers find the net on 19 occasions. A season that many fail to find superlatives for, Leverkusen still have 5 more games to play before the end of the campaign.

This means that if anything, the numbers can only go up from here. Leverkusen have games lined up against Borussia Dortmund and Frankfurt though the results will make no palpable difference to their season.

The club’s top scorer for the season is Florian Wirtz with 11 goals, who also has 10 assists to his name. Alejandro Grimaldo leads the list for asissts in the competition.
