Football is called the beautiful game for a reason. Above all the blood, sweat and tears, some moments unfold on a football pitch that tugs at the heartstrings of everyone. One such moment unfolded before the game featuring the New York Red Bulls and Inter Miami. Despite Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami falling 4-0 to the hosts, the headlines were stolen by a moment before kick-off.

A heartwarming video posted on the New York Red Bulls’ official Instagram shows how a simple gesture can make someone’s day. Both players and the young mascots stood in the drenching rain as one particular Bulls player chose to take off his jacket. Dante Vanzeir‘s selfless act of giving his jacket to the young mascot started off a chain reaction.

Every other player in the NY Red Bulls line-up proceeded to do the same as the young kids smiled as they got relief from the rain. Clips of the same have not gone viral on social media, with fans commending the small yet selfless acts made by the players.

The game, which proceeded to be played out in the rain, ended in the hosts winning 4-0 against Lionel Messi -less Inter Miami. They play the New York City next this weekend.

Suarez and co. helpless as Inter Miami battered by New York Red Bulls

It has become a recurring pattern where Inter Miami , when without Lionel Messi’s services, have their most vulnerable weaknesses on display. This was the case on Saturday, as the side led by Sergio Busquets failed to find the target even once, while also conceding a whopping four times!

The Herons were very much second best on Saturday, as they were a shadow of the team they were billed to be this season. On a cold and rainy night at the Red Bull Arena, a hat-trick from Lewis Morgan and another from Wikelman Carmona ended the visitors’ agony. The 4-0 defeat on Saturday marked the Herons’ second defeat of the season.

As Lionel Messi prepares to sit out a few more games for Miami, it remains to be seen how they will adapt their style of play in his absence. The Argentine has been one of their best players so far, having netted 5 times and setting up another two for his teammates. Luis Suarez‘s re-union with Messi hit a low on Saturday, as he was reduced to a yellow card and 2 missed shots against the NY Red Bulls.
