Both Bologna and Juventus could secure their positions in the 2024-25 edition of the Champions League during Sunday’s round of Serie A fixtures, but a lot will depend on the meeting of fifth-placed Atalanta and sixth-placed Roma at 19.45 BST.

What Bologna need

Bologna, currently in third, were in action on Saturday, recording an important 2-0 victory away against Napoli after an early double from Dan Ndoye and Stefan Posch. That result brought the team’s points tally up to 67 from 36 matches in 2023-24.

That means that Thiago Motta’s side will need Roma to either lose or draw against Atalanta to have their Champions League spot confirmed on Sunday. The Giallorossi currently have 60 points after 35 matches.

Bologna will qualify ahead of Roma if they end up level on points, as the Rossoblu lead on head-to-head, having beaten the Giallorossi twice over the course of this season.

What Juventus need

Juventus will also be hoping that Roma do not win against Atalanta. They need to gain one more point on Daniele De Rossi’s side to confirm their Champions League position by the end of the day.

If Juventus beat Salernitana on Sunday, they will qualify as long as Roma draw or lose. If Juve draw, they need Roma to lose.
