What's next for World Cup wunderkind Kylian Mbappe?

It's the transfer story that never ends.

Kylian Mbappé, World Cup winner and one of the best young players of his generation has threatened to leave his hometown club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the past three seasons.

Mbappé, 25, came close to signing a new contract each time, but he has remained in Paris.

Last summer, Mbappé seemed set on leaving for Real Madrid, only to change his mind at the last minute. With his Paris contract set to expire in June, Mbappé has finally entered a window where he could legally sign a pre-contract with his next club — and many think he's done just that with Madrid.

Mbappé's camp has rejected this rumor, stating, "There is no agreement around Kylian's future, especially since there are no discussions started about it."

But local French paper Footmercato disputed that statement, believing it was designed to deflect away from a Madrid contract that's already been signed.

If Kylian leaves PSG for Real Madrid, his transfer free will likely be one of the largest in soccer history. He's already rejected several nine-figure offers, including a $330M bid from Saudi club Al-Hilal. But with The Times reporting that Real Madrid's new offers aren't interesting to Mbappé, could the French striker wind up in the Premier League instead?

It's possible, but highly unlikely. Few clubs have the resources available to pay for him, and the one that does — Manchester City — already has a star forward in Erling Haaland.

There is a chance that Liverpool could sell striker Mo Salah to Saudi Arabia and use the money to fund a bid. Mbappé, however, hasn't expressed much interest in Liverpool over the years, and there's no guarantee Salah would agree to such a transfer.

For now, it looks like we're back to the same old triangle: Mbappé, Madrid and PSG. Here's hoping it all finally resolves this season.
