The Vancouver Whitecaps re-signed midfielder Sebastian Berhalter to a two-year extension plus a club option for 2026, the team announced Wednesday.

Berhalter had two goals and two assists in 28 games (11 starts) in the final year of his contract in 2023.

"Still only 22, Sebastian has shown to be a key piece in our group with a willingness to contribute wherever needed," Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said in a news release.

"He is very mature for his age, works extremely hard and will always push himself to be better. We are pleased that we were able to reach an agreement and we now look forward to seeing him continue his development as he helps us achieve our goals in the coming years."

Last season was Berhalter's second with Vancouver. He went scoreless in 18 matches (11 starts) in 2022.

Berhalter also has played for the Columbus Crew (2020) and Austin FC (2021) during his MLS career. He has two goals and three assists in 73 matches (31 starts).

Berhalter is happy to be sticking with the Whitecaps.

"I'm excited to help the club compete for trophies and can't wait to be back in front of our fans!" Berhalter said.
