Harmony Tan, partner clear air after Wimbledon doubles controversy

Harmony Tan has experienced a myriad of emotions during this year's Wimbledon Championships.

Tan went from living as a relatively unknown player to becoming the talk of the tennis world when she defeated living legend Serena Williams in a first-round singles Wimbledon match on Tuesday. The 24-year-old then had her name in sports headlines, though, when partner Tamara Korpatsch took to social media on Wednesday to angrily confirm Tan had pulled out of the doubles tournament roughly an hour before their scheduled match because of a thigh injury she was dealing with following her win over Williams.

It appears any such controversy is now a thing of the past.

Per D'arcy Maine of ESPN, Korpatsch announced via her Instagram story on Thursday that she and Tan have spoken and made peace.

"She made me clear about her injury now and we already apologized to each other," Korpatsch said. "As a fact I will delete my previous post regarding this situation. And I will ask not to write bad comments to her, don't want that she gets insults!"

In her original post which has since been removed, Korpatsch wrote:

"She just texted me this morning. Let me wait here [one] hour before the match start. I'm very sad, disappointed and also very angry that I can't play my 1st Doubles Grand Slam. And It's really not fair for me."

Korpatsch continued:

"I didn't deserve that. She asked me before the tournament if we wanna play doubles and I said yes, I didn't ask her, she asked me! If you're broken after a 3 [hour] match the day before, you can't play professional. That's my opinion."

Tan defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-3, 6-4 in Thursday's second-round encounter. According to ESPN, Tan (ranked No. 115) will next face Katie Boulter (No. 118).
