Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli has proposed making the Laver Cup a mixed event to make it more interesting.

The Laver Cup has just had it’s fourth event, although with Team Europe dominating so much there is an argument it is losing much of it’s spectacle.

Bartoli believes WTA stars should be invited to join Team Europe and Team World, with the later especially benefitting from an injection of star power from the likes of Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu, and others.

“I think it would be nice to [make it] a mixed event,” Bartoli told The Match Points podcast.

“Especially now when you have, for example Leylah [Fernandez] playing for the rest of the world and Emma [Raducanu] playing for Europe.

“I think it would be so interesting to see some mixed doubles, or even singles.

“But let’s say a mixed doubles between Raducanu and Novak [Djokovic] against Fernandez and Felix [Auger-Aliassime] for example.

“That would have been something a lot of people would pay for.

“I think you can absolutely incorporate the women and make it still a great event for years to come.”
