Daniil Medvedev kicked off his run in the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters with a sensational victory against Gael Monfils in the Round of 32. However, that victory was not without controversy, as the Russian lost his cool against the chair umpire over a particular decision.

Daniil Medvedev won the first set pretty convincingly and was off to a great start in the game. He got an early lead in the second set as well.

However, it is not unknown that the Russian is extremely competitive. Thus, despite being in the lead, he lost his cool at the chair umpire when the Hawkeye made a clear mistake.

On one of Monfil’s shots in a particular game, the ball supposedly went out but the Hawkeye showed that it was in and it cost Medvedev the game. This made the Russian furious and he kept on shouting at the umpire, saying that it was out.

Although the chair-umpire tried to explain it to him, the World No. 4 was adamant and his voice resonated from the mic.

Daniil Medvedev went on to win the match, however, fans criticized his behavior during that argument a lot. After his victory though, he tried to mend his mistake by apologizing to the chair-umpire.

Let’s see. Maybe I was wrong. He said while shaking his hand.
No I think you’re right. Hawkeye always shows that way. To that, the umpire replied

Daniil Medvedev faces Karen Khachanov in the Round of 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters

Now that Medvedev has defeated Gael Monfils in his first match of the Monte Carlo Masters, he has made it to round 16 of the tournament. He will face Karen Khachanov in the round of 16, and the Russian, without a doubt, remains the favorite to win this match.

The two players have played a total of six matches against each other. Daniil Medvedev won five of those matches, while Karen Khachanov has won just one.

While the numbers do not favor the Russian-Armenian player, he won his last encounter against Medvedev in the Vienna Open, which is definitely a positive for him going into the match.

Khachanov performed pretty well in his matches against Francisco Cerundolo and Cameron Norrie in this tournament. In fact, his straight-set victory against Cameron Norrie in the first round was very impressive. With that being said, it seems like he is in great form, and the upcoming match is going to be interesting.
