The 2024 Brisbane International started on December 29, 2023, and will go on until January 7, 2024. It is a pre-Australian Open tournament in which many players are participating for proper practice ahead of the much-awaited Grand Slam.
The Brisbane International is a combined ATP 250 and WTA 500 event that is played at the Queensland Tennis Centre. This year, several top players like Holger Rune and Grigor Dimitrov are taking part in the Brisbane International. However, the factor that has increased the hype of the tournament tenfold is the participation of Rafael Nadal.
The Spaniard is finally making a comeback to the court after almost a year. He suffered a hip injury in the 2023 Australian Open and had to sit out the entire season for the same. Rafael Nadal aimed to return at the Australian Open directly but he decided to play in the Brisbane International as well to be match-fit ahead of the first Grand Slam title.
However, top seed Holger Rune remains the favorite to win the tournament. The Danish international was going through a rough patch in 2023 owing to his back pain but had a decent run in the last two tournaments of the year under his new coach, Boris Becker.
Thus, the youngster will definitely want to regain his long-lost confidence ahead of the Australian Open by winning the Brisbane International.
Round-wise prize money distribution for the 2024 Brisbane International
There are four events at Brisbane International: the men’s singles and doubles and the women’s singles and doubles. Talking about the ATP events, the total prize money is $661,585, and there has been a 25.3% increase in the prize money compared to 2019, when the event was last played.
The men’s singles champion will get a prize of $95,340. This sum has seen an increase of 4.8% from the last edition.
Talking about the WTA events, the total prize money is $1,736,763, which is a 19.05% increase from when the event was last played in 2020. The singles winner of the WTA event will get $220,000. This, however, has seen a decrease of 17.3% from 2020.
