The WNBA Draft was on Monday night and only one program had two players invited to the draft. That was the Ohio State women’s basketball program. Both Jacy Sheldon and Celeste Taylor were invited to the Draft in Brooklyn. Both players had excellent seasons for the Buckeyes in 2023-24.

That’s what makes the end of the season so disappointing. The Buckeyes had all of that talent and got crushed by Maryland and then fell to Duke at home in back-to-back games. Sheldon was the leader of the team for the past couple of seasons and still had a great Ohio State career. Taylor was a solid player as a transfer too. Both got drafted.

Both Ohio State women’s basketball players at the Draft were selected

Sheldon was the better prospect of the two. She was widely projected to be selected fifth overall. That’s exactly where she ended up. She was taken by the Dallas Wings. Her ball skills and the way she runs a team are extremely valuable. Her shooting is also a big plus for the Wings. She’s a three-point shooter who can create her own shot or get them off the ball.

Taylor came to Ohio State as a defensive specialist and she was indeed that. That’s what she’ll bring to the next level as well. She ended up getting taken by the Indiana Fever with their second-round pick. She will be teammates with former Ohio State women’s basketball player Kelsey Mitchell and Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark.

It was a great night for the Ohio State women’s basketball program. While the team won’t be as good next year, they did get a solid transfer portal player and have landed some big-time recruits. Kevin McGuff will have his team back in contention sooner rather than later. He’s too good of a coach not to.
