Big E discusses a pitch he made to his New Day stablemates.

Next month marks two years since the WWE Universe saw Big E in a wrestling ring. And while it remains uncertain if he will ever return to action, Big E has opened the door for his New Day stablemates — Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods — to temporarily add a new member to their group in his absence.

During a recent interview with WhatCulture Wrestling, Big E opened up about his aforementioned proposal to Woods and Kingston. Despite Big E being sidelined for nearly two years now, Kingston and Woods are unwavering in their desire to keep The New Day’s long-time dynamic intact.

“Yeah, it’s a long time (that New Day’s been in WWE). We are old, our hairlines don’t look the same. But yeah, it’s been quite the journey and we thought — for like a year or so, we’ve been kind of eyeing the 10 years and it’s not the same. I’m not around. I told those guys too, as long as I’m out, please don’t feel like you’re beholden to me,” Big E recalled. “My voice comes on at the beginning of the song every time and I’m not around. I don’t know if that’s fair to those guys. [So I told them] ‘Hey, if you need a fill-in with a third, feel free to,’ but they’re always so adamant about like, ‘Nah, nah, nah. This is the group’ and I appreciate them dearly for that.”

As Big E alluded to, 2024 officially marks 10 years since he, Kingston, and Woods joined forces. Initially introduced with a gospel gimmick, the trio eventually began looking toward the “power of positivity” instead, which ultimately laid the path for their success. Across their different variations, The New Day has accrued 11 tag team title reigns in WWE thus far.
