David Finlay has been sidelined and taken out of the New Japan Cup.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced that David Finlay was unable to compete in his New Japan Cup match against Hirooki Goto due to illness. As a result, Goto advanced to the semifinals via forfeit.

NJPW then announced that Finlay was not cleared for the March 17 event, and Gedo took his place in a multi-man match.

The announcement, courtesy of NJPW’s website, is as follows:

“Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Yesterday, New Japan Cup entrant David Finlay was forced to withdraw from his tournament matchup with Hirooki Goto due to a health complaint before matches took place.

Finlay has additionally not been cleared to compete in today’s event in Shizuoka. We apologize to fans who were looking forward to seeing Finlay wrestle and appreciate your understanding.”

WrestleZone wishes David Finlay well in his recovery, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
