The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will kick off on the January 9 episode of WWE NXT.

It was revealed during this week's New Year's Evil special that the Dusty Rhodes tournament will begin on the Tuesday, January 9 edition of the show, and several teams were teased as entering.

On-screen authority figure Ava (Simone Johnson) announced the tournament in an interview during New Year's Evil.

Bron Breakker & Baron Corbin agreed to team up for the tournament in a backstage promo segment on Tuesday, as did the duo of Nathan Frazer & Axiom. Edris Enofe and Malik Blade, plus Andre Chase & Duke Hudson were also teased as entering the tournament.

The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was last held in 2022. In all there have been seven men's tournaments, and two women's. The tournament winner traditionally receives an NXT Tag Team title shot. With the NXT Women's Tag titles unified with the WWE Women's Tag titles last year, it would appear that there will be just a men's Dusty Rhodes Classic this year.

The NXT Tag Team titles will also be defended on next week's show.

Tony D'Angelo & Stacks Lorenzo will defend their titles against OTM's Bronco Nima & Lucien Price. OTM won a number one contender's match on the December 26 episode to set up the bout.

Also set for next week, Cora Jade will take on Gigi Dolin.

The announced lineup for the Tuesday, January 9 WWE NXT:

  • Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic begins
  • NXT Tag Team Champions Tony D'Angelo & Stacks Lorenzo defend against OTM's Bronco Nima & Lucien Price
  • Cora Jade vs. Gigi Dolin
